On my Macbook (10.5.8), after a few minutes of inactivity, instead of going to the screensaver or snooze/sleep mode, the screen starts flashing. When I move the mouse everything comes back and seems to run normal. It's random thing. OS or hard drive problem? Any thoughts or ideas please.

Your Mac's Specs
20" Intel iMac 2.4 Ghz/3G Ram/320HD, Snow Leopard. PBook G4, 1.5Ghz/1.5 Ram/250 HD, Leopard 10.5.6.
Could be a video card issue, but I'd run disk utility from the install disc first, and verify permissions and the HD.
Also rest PRAM and NVRAM, just to be sure.
If you have access to it, run a Hardware test too.
If the problem still exists then we'll go from there.
