Really a basic question - file type association

How to associate a specific file types to an app? I am very new to Mac and struggling to set this at a system level.

Your Mac's Specs
Macbook, iMac G5, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod (MANY)!
You'll want to highlight the icon and press "Command I" or "Control-Click", then "Get Info". Then you'll go to "Open with:" and choose your app. Then if you want all files to open with app, you'll want to click on "Change All...".
