Hi guys

I download a series earlier on and some of the episodes are AVI format and others are WMV. The AVI one's will play fine in Quicktime X (10) but the WMV won't play in Quicktime X (10). I know that I could download Real Player or another player, but I want to play all in Quick Time X (10).

I have been looking around for a decent converter (for mac) and earlier on i came across Prism. Now this converted from WMV to AVI like a dream, but then when I went to play it all I got was video but no sound???

Does anyone know of any free converters that will do the job (including sound)?

I have already installed Flip4Mac but makes no difference when it comes to playing WMV in Quick Time X (10).

Any help would be good

I'm using a Macbook Pro 13inch / 250GB HD / 4 GB RAM

Its running Snow Leopard

Thanks for this. I'll give it a go. I only joined this forum today so am still getting used to it.

Is this software you recommended easy to use?

I just recently switched from a PC to a Mac. I got a lot of "should work fine" when I asked about Windows files like .mpg videos and etc. Well QT won't play these files so
I downloaded VLC. Everything seemed to go well. I selected a MPG video and it worked just fine. Then I selected another mpg video, highlighted it and the first one played again. I got out of VLC and came back and selected another video (mpg) and the first one played again. I must be an idiot but can't lose the first to play the second. What am I doing wrong?

Secondly how can I change my default player from QT to VLC? Or how do I designate all my .mpg files to be played by VLC.

I really like my new Mac but the stress level is quite high. Windows I could make sing and dance. Now with the Mac I am a wallflower and an idiot. Someone take pity on this idiot and help me stumble thru the conversion.

No 1. Put the VLC icon into the Dock (I don't want to bombard you with unnecessary info, so post back if you need assistance with that process). Drag any movie icon, from its place, over the VLC icon in the dock and it should open. I can't really say from this distance why the first movie repeated. If it does that again, Quit VLC and then go through the process I've just outlined.
No 2. R-click on any movie icon and select Get Info. In the small window that opens, go to Open With: and choose VLC Player. Then, beneath is ... Use this application to open all documents like this: click Change All. All the movie icons will change to the VLC image - not a problem. VLC is arguably the best there is at managing different video and audio file formats.

Everything you said worked GREAT. I owe you a beer. Guess that would be a Fosters but I am a sissy so I would have a Miller Lite. Thanks. I am go for all my videos.

Got my email working, all my documents and still pictures working, my PPS are working, just a couple more things and I will be converted completely.

Whaaaaaaat!!? That's Australian beer, a.k.a. weasel water! ;D :D My preferred poison is Flame, a genuine Kiwi (NZ) product. Thank you for the kind thought anyway.

Good to read that you've got or are getting your Mac experience together now. Enjoy.

Is this a mac forum or a beer forum? Only joking. Besides, everyone knows the best beer comes from Yorkshire so there's no point in others competing!
