There's a low but very irritating chirping noise coming from the left side of my macbook. It sounds somewhat like the scrolling noise which comes from moving the click wheel on an iPod. Occasionally, the noise gets quite loud and it scares the **** out of me because it sounds like the computer is going to implode.

I've researched and it's been said that it could be anything from the hard drive to a fan, but there's no direct answer.

I plan on calling Apple services, but I'd love to find out if anyone has had a similar problem.

I appreciate any help on this matter.

If the noise is constant it's probably the Fan. If it's an intermittent chirping or low clicking noise then it could be coming from the hard drive. If your computer is still under warranty or Apple care, make an appointment with your local Apple store.

Regards.

It's a constant sound. It starts the second I turn on the computer.
Thanks. I'll see what Apple can do.

What I just don't understand is how the fan can get messed up on a computer that's not even a year old.
