Logic board failed; how to recover data

My iBook G3 finally died. The unit won't turn on. The Genius at the Apple Store check it out and says the logic board has failed. My question is how can I recover the data from the hard drive without paying the Apple Store $150. Is there a way I can do it myself without too much trouble? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Your best bet is probably to pull the hard drive from the laptop and slave it to another computer somehow. I have one of these: Amazon.com: USB 2.0 to IDE SATA HDD Hard Drive Converter Cable: Electronics. It's a hard drive usb adapter so you can plug it into another mac and pull your data.
