I am trying to eke out a few more years life from an ibook G4. Recently, the hard disk died dead, so I replaced it. I purchased a 2.5" 160GB IDE drive and successfully replaced the drive. I know it worked because diskwarrior boots and can see the disk and it tests as it is all working fine.

However, when I boot using the official 10.4 install disks I get a kernel panic and message saying can't find the driver for Powerbook6,7.

So, have I installed an incompatible piece of hardware for the Ibook G4? Is there any way to get through this problem?
