C'mon guys, let's be polite and helpful.

Politeness is exactly what I'm referring to. It's typically polite to say "please" when asking others to help you with something.:)

A 4 gig upgrade is probably the most you want to do. If you did an 8 gig upgrade...the price would jump from like $87.99 to something like close to $600 bucks!:(

Personally I wouldn't upgrade a laptop for those activities.

I have a MacBook with 1 gig of ram, and a MacBook Pro with 2 gigs of ram...and I do exactly what you mentioned, and I have never had any running out of ram issues.

Now if you were talking having 8-10 applications open at the same...then maybe a ram upgrade would make sense. But then again, generally there's really not a need to have 8-10 applications open at the same time.

If you have mail, Safari, iTunes, and Microsoft Word open at the same time you should be ok with 1-2 gigs of ram.

Hope this helps,

just upgraded my macbook

Thanks to this forum and OWC, I just put 4 Gb memory and a 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive in my macbook. It turned out to be a piece of cake!
Took all afternoon to transer files from the Time Capsule to the new drive however.

Thanks guys!!!!

I forgot to mention - I have read somewhere that 4 Gig of memory is about all you can put in the macbook. Presently, I use mine for Photoshop CS4 and it really appreciates the extra memory! I keep PS and Bridge and some other stuff open at the same time and everyting is running just great.
I have a new 2.53/4 G mac mini on order, but, dang, this little macbook sure runs sweet and is very handy.

Many of the newer MacBooks can have up to 6 gig of ram...my reference to 8 gig of ram in a MacBook earlier in this thread was not correct...I got overly enthusiastic & had MacBook Pros "on the brain"!;)

LOL. So do you guys recommend Crucial or OWC? I've used Crucial in my previous white macbook and had no problems at all. However, I hear a lot about OWC as well..
