FCE does not see my Canon XH-G1

Hi

I have not been able to digitize from my Canon XHG1 to Final Cut Express, as the software does not see that a camera is connected. I am at a total loss on what the problem is, could it be:

1. Firewire port is fine on camera, had it checked.
2. Driver issues (missing)?
3. Using firewire800 on a possible firewire400 peripheral?

The first thing to do is figure out if OS X is seeing the camera. Set the camera in video playback mode, start it up, plug it in. Give it a few moments to talk to your computer. Start 'System Profiler' in the Utilities folder. Under the Hardware section click on Firewire. Do you see the camera listed?

FW800 is compatible with FW400.

Try it with iMovie too.

The XHg1 is not even seen in iMovie. I have tested the system with a small Samsung miniDV and it talks to iMovie but not to FCE. I had a chat to some one someone who said I need to buy an adpater for my iMac to go from a FW800 to a FW400 and then connect with a FW400 cable to the camera?

Could this work?

It sounds like you already have a firewire cable hooked up, so why would you need an adapter.

Did you check System Profiler?
