MacBook Screen Blacks out Regularly

Hey I have a MacBook which I bought new in 2007. I haven't had any problems until today when as soon as I turned it on the screen flashed and then went black. I restarted and it did the same thing, the screen flashes on like normal and then goes black. I can still faintly see the picture as if I had the screen brightness setting all the way down. I have noticed that if I put the screen brightness setting all the way down and then press the button to increase the brightness then the screen flashes on for second and then goes black again. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do?

I had this issue awhile back and resetting the PRAM did the trick for me.
