Macbook Pro Display Issue

Hey guys i have a issue with my MacBook pro, i am running it with a external monitor and on occasion when only the monitor goes to sleep and not the MacBook when i wake up the monitor the screen is all static or snowy i just have to turn the monitor on and off to fix this. i am just curious if this is a hardware issue on the MacBook or a software issue with it and should i take it back to apple

Not too clear - just the external monitor is snowy occasionally but MBP is OK all the time - is that what u are saying.

its only the external monitor that gets snowy i am running the macbook in clam shell mode with the external monitor hooked up to it

Any chance of testing with another monitor - sounds like a monitor issue to me.
