Converting FLV files

I have just purchased a MAC and am new to this but I have downloaded some videos from You tube but they appear as FLV files.Is there any free software recommended that will enable these videos to be played in Itunes or played on a normal DVD player

install VLC; it'll play them in QuickTime.

or install Perian to play them in QT; you'll need QT Pro to save them as .mov to move on to iTunes.
