hey hey

my friend just gave me a bigger monitor so that I could see 3DsMax a bit easier when i'm doing my animations, but the end that connects the LCD monitor to the computer is too big to fit into the computer. Is there anything I can do? I'm assuming i will have to buy an adapter or something but im not sure where to look/what they're called etc. (I'm a student and not really looking to spend more than £15 ideally.)
Any help would be really appreciated!

Sorry...South Wales is a little too far away for me to see what ports your laptop has & what connector is on your LCD display...in order to recommend the adapter you need!;)

erm, not sure how to explain it. its one of those blue screw in connectors (for the laptop) but its twice the size of the port the mac has.

sorry to be a pain, but i'm not sure how to check what sort of connector it is. It doesn't seem to say anything/have a code on the actual connector, but on the back of the LCD screen it says what Model and Input it is if thats any help? if so the model of the external/extra monitor is F159 and Input is 100-240V-50/60Hz-1.0a and I have a MacBook which I bought in August last year. If thats not the right info i'll ask the guy i got it from.

:) ok what I need to know is how old is your MacBook. Is it the new aluminum one ? If you click n the apple in the upper left corner under "about his Mac " it will tell you the model which will let us know which display adapter you will need.

1. The cable from the monitor - is it this one which is called VGA:

or similar to one of these, called DVI?

2. Is the port on your MacBook like this one - a mini-dvi port:

or like this one - a mini-display port?

Great Job "bobtomay"!:)

Some users don't realize the potential array of choices & combinations there can be between a laptop & an external monitor!

Right well the connector looks like the VGA one from what I can see, and the port on my mac is like the first picture of the two macbooks. The model of my macbook is:

Model Name:MacBook
Model Identifier:MacBook4,1
Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:2.1 GHz

" Some users don't realize the potential array of choices & combinations there can be between a laptop & an external monitor!" well no I wouldn't know if i've never plugged an external monitor to my macbook laptop before now would I? Hence why i'm asking here ;)

Then you need a mini dvi to VGA adapter. You can get one at best buy or on line.

Good luck
