PDF and Master Document problem Word 2008

I have a master document containing five sub-documents. When I save as a PDF from Word 2008, I end up with each sub-document as a separate PDF file.

I then have to then reassemble them in Acrobat pro. There must be a way of getting Word 2008 to save a Master Doc as one continuous PDF. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes. Complain to MS, they're the only ones that can fix this. The same thing happens, for example, when saving an Excel workbook with multiple worksheets.
