Question on iphone and itunes

I have the 1st generation iphone and a new mac. i have all of this information, music, contacts, apps on the iphone and im afraid that if i try and sync with the iphone I will lose anything. Is there anyway that I can avoid this? Is there any way to ensure that I dont lose anything on my iphone?
