Hi whenever i go to change my desktop background the system prefrences window closes without me doing anything. Pleas help thanks

Help! You're gonna have to get real basic here, I'm kinda dense.
Get me from "whenever I go to change" to "without me doing anything".
So you're in the System Preferences window. Which pane? Then you do something. What? Then you do nothing, and it closes. Is that right?

i right click on the desktop then pick change desktop background and it's open for a second then closes out
