Hi,
I am looking to purchase a hub or splitter to plug into my firewire port so that I can plug in my hard drive and a video camera at the same time. Any recommendations? (I am pretty illiterate when it comes to the technology — I don't understand the difference between firewire 400 and 800, for example).

Firewire hubs are pretty rare, but here is one on NewEgg: Newegg.com - GWC HF1060 6-Ports IEEE1394 Repeater Hub - Hubs

The difference between 400 and 800 is speed, and the cables/connectors are different. That's really all you need to know about that. 800 is newer, 400 is older and slower, but still used a lot more than 800.

Hope this helps. :)
