Photos: I'm not sure, what your request is, but you could check out Flickr.com

backing up your os: The only thing that comes close to that might be iPodBackup, which is free. It backs up your home folder.

music: http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.php/freemusic/

podcast:
http://www.podcastalley.com/
http://www.podcast.net/
podcast software: http://www.podcastalley.com/phpBB2/links.php

games: I would recommend install Linux on your on iPod, but it doesn't support iPod photo.
Check it out anyways: http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14247

medical records: just make a .txt file and drop it in the "Notes" folder. Which will be readable on the iPod screen.

miscellaneous: Check out this website, but you may already know about it. They should have topics on just about anything.

Thanks everyone on your helpful responses.

The questions were vague because I wanted to generate
unsolicited responses that open up all avenues of information and thought that a specific question would not have done. That way, the links supplied and helpful hints given here gives me and others somewhere to start.
thanks iwhat and brendan67

Maybe this thread will help the ipod faq thread get started up.
