I'm thinking of taking my old hard drive and putting it in an enclosure for an SATA 3.5" hard drive and using it as an external drive. What do you recommend? Hopefully it will be something I can walk into a brick and mortar store and purchase.

Sorry, not available at brick & mortar.

After my 2+ month search for what I deemed to be the best external backup, ended up with this one. It was another $35 higher than it is now a year and 1/2 ago. Thus far it's been a reliable and speedy enclosure. They also have a SATA dual interface FW400 & USB at $50.

You can find lots of cheaper stuff out there, especially if you don't want a quad interface. You'll not have a clue what chip set is inside most of them if any of that matters to you.
