between these two options what would everyone go for.... is the speed increase noticeable enough to warrant the lesser capacity?

thanks guys...

Dunno, makes it a harder decision now.

When I upgraded the WD 320 7200 was the largest drive available.
Will say, I wouldn't trade it in on the WD Blue.

I don't have any experience with the speed change from 5400 to 7200 but will tell you I will I would not give up my 500Gb hard drive for anything less.. i like the space, I carry a good portion of my Photography library .. couple of seasons of Eurika, WareHouse 13, ect ... XP Pro and the kitchen sink ;)

In fact looking at a 640GB hard drive in the near furture.

Just 15 minutes ago, I just rebooted my MBP 15" with its new Seagate Momentus 500G 7200 RPM 16Meg cache drive in place. It is working quite nicely. I had changed out the drive in my old 13" Alu MacBook before it was stolen, and I had noticed a bit bit of a speed increase...at least I think so. Loading big images into PS CS4 seems a hair faster. We'll see. Havent done any before tests, so it'll be hard to quantify. Anyway, its the space I wanted.

Anywho, they are on sale at Best Buy right now for $109, which is same price as at NewEgg amazingly....

I currently have 2 320GB 7200rpm drives, one Seagate and one WD. The Seagate is flakey and seems to be defective, but both are noticeably faster than the stock 5400rpm Fujitsu that was installed in this machine from the factory. The only advantage I can see in the 500GB 5400RPM drive would be battery life (but only marginally) and possibly heat and vibration (not terribly noticeable, even less so with the Seagate).

get the 320 7200rpm and grab an external HD for the storage. I saw a nice change when I went up to 7200rpm
