2009 15" Macbook Pro - Are these iSTAT readings appropriate...?

Hey All,

I purchased the lower level 2009 15 inch MBP two months ago and it's been great. However, I do notice that sometimes it gets pretty hot, and this concerns me since my last laptop (a POS HP) essentially burned out.

When sitting idle, my HD is about 85 degrees Farenheight, and my CPU is about 165. At this temperature, it feels pretty cool to the touch. But every so often, my CPU will reach 200 degrees Farenheight, and my fan speed will hit almost 3,000 RPM! Is this OK? It usually only happens when I have my MBP on my bed or a blanket (I know it makes it harder for it to breathe... but still). I just want to make sure my product is normal, and to make sure I don't need to take it in to get looked at. Somebody share their knowledge with me! ;D

that seems pretty normal. my unibody mbp sufs the web at about 42*c. also my fan is set to idle at about 2300rpm at this temp. I believe the fan easily reaches close to 6000rpm at max speed. correct me if im wrong ;D

Do NOT use your Mac notebook on the bed, a blanket, the carpet, etc. unless it is on a stand.

You are effectively blocking the airflow on the machine which is located at the rear of the machine at the hinge.

I don't care what everyone says, I would NEVER let my cpu reach 200*F!!!!!

Pahs, if you're really worried about burning out your Macbook, DON'T use it on a bed or blanket. You seem to know that it's not good for your computer, yet you still do it, which is like wanting to live a long healthy life without giving up cigarettes.

yeah they recommend a well ventilated room with plenty of airflow.

Operating Temperature

What is a decent/expected operating temperature while running simple programs like iTunes, AIM, Facebook, Microsoft Word, etc.?? I still seem to normally be sitting around 165 degrees F. Some people seem to think this is a problem and some don't... somebody who KNOWS what's normal please help!!!
