I got this Newlink 5 Port USB 2.0 PCI Host PC/Mac/Computer Card on eBay (end time 04-Nov-09 14:38:55 GMT)
When i put it in to the computer. the computer seems to recognize it in system profiler as usb host card. but when i stick in a usb stick the light comes on the usb stick but it does not appear on the desktop. the usb stick works in the other usb ports on the computer.
its my first time sticking in a pci card. i just took out the screw and pushed in the card and then put the screw back in. i assume thats it.

The problem with some inexpensive PCI add on cards that claim they're for the PC and Mac is that they don't always work for the Mac. Your System Profiler shows the card but if it doesn't recognize a device attached through the card, then the card may not be compatible or providing enough power.

Have you tried attaching other devices to the card's ports? Try attaching a powered device to see if it works. Also try attaching a USB device to the card's internal USB port.

Regards.

i tried a usb stick in the internal port and it still does not work. i also tried a ipod and no luck with that. the ipod did not even show it was connected.

Go to USB and see if the high speed USB controller appears there. Obviously the card is installed but does it work?
