Mini Display Port, Regular or Dual Link DVI

Could anyone explain the differences between these in plain english, other than the $70 price difference?

Will be using one of the two in combination of a DVI to HDMI adapter to view on my TV from an iMac. Wondering if it would be worth it to kick in the extra $70 or not.
