Hello,

I did some research already but am still uncertain on the maximum size of ram i can put on my macbook. I have one of the first models in 2006 so its pretty old now. still running tiger 10.4. currently have 1gb (2x512mb) and want to upgrade to 4gb (2x2gb) but i read in some places i can only upgrade to 2gb(2x1gb) and some places saying up to 4gb. So i thought i would jump on here hoping someone could clarify.

This is from my system profile,

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook1,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MB11.0061.B03
SMC Version: 1.4f12
Serial Number: 4H63509QWBV

Mactracker says (depending on the year model) your machine can accept 1 x 1 GB module + 1 x 2 GB module for a total of 3 GB. The very first model MacBook will only hold 2 GB.

Regards.

according to this site
Identify Your Mac - Lookup your Apple by Serial Number or Model Number

i have the Model No: MA700LL/A based on my serial #. and according to his site
Apple MacBook Specs (All MacBook Technical Specs) @ EveryMac.com

1.0 GB Maximum RAM: 2.0 GB*
Details: 1 GB of RAM is installed as two 512 MB modules, no slots free.

*Apple officially supports 2 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been "unofficially" able to upgrade it to 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM (it can hold 4 GB but cannot fully utilize the memory beyond 3 GB).

And to add to all the excellent advise so far, it's nothing to do with OSX. It's the Machine.
