Mac pro TOSLINK light not working?

Hi,

I just got my mac pro and love it!

But i cannot seem to help but notice that only one of my optical audio ports light up RED. I do not know if this means its broken or not.

My question: Does only the OPTICAL AUDIO OUT light up - and not the OA INPUT?

Its just been bugging me any help would be great

The input port receives a signal from another device. It does not send a signal out.
