I have 256Mb RAM (factory) in my G5 now, and I would like to upgrade to 768Mb. Do I absolutely have to buy two 256s or can I just install one 512?
Thanks

you can install just a 512 stick if you'd like. I'd make sure the RAM is totally compatible...I've heard the G5 is picky about its RAM :)

That's what I did, but it doesn't seem to be recognizing it. It's a 512Mb 184-pin 400MHz PC3200. That's the kind the G5 uses, right?
(I started this thread but accidentally under the wrong user name, it's still me.)

is this a dual? If so, you will need to by 2x of everything, hence dual channel.

Seems to me, if a ramstick is bad in a single G5, it should error correct? Or is that just the PC user in me talking?

I think the pm 1.6 takes ram in pairs doesn't it? that is probably why it is not recognizing the single 512 chip.
