Firefox won't quit without me forcing it to. I've re-installed Firefox. That fixed it the first time, now re-installing it has no affect. I understand that this is more common than I realized. Is there a fix? Thanks for reading this. Dan

Simplest solution first Dan. Go to Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions and then reboot. If still no joy, was the re-install a brand new download or did you use the .dmg image from previously?

Keep us posted?

OK. I'll do repair permissions. I tried to use the old downloads and new downloads, didn't seem to make a difference. Thanks, Dan

I ran the "repair permissions". There was a list of stuff differing from the initial utilities parameters. Couldn't this be explained by the update from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8? I guess I'll try running Disk Warrior. Maybe that'll do something. I'll report back. I don't know if everyone else is living with the problem or not having the same problem. I do know others WITH the problem. I did mention it's on a Mini, if that makes any difference. Dan

Also make sure you're reinstalling FireFox clean - that is without plug ins or any add ons. Try completely removing everything to do with FireFox first, in other words a total uninstall including plug ins and add ons.

Regards.

By "clean" install you mean that I'm going to lose all my passwords, favorite sites, bookmarks and everything else? I've started Firefox in it's safe mode previously with mixed results. Sometimes it makes a difference, sometimes it doesn't. I'm not certain not having to force Firefox to close is worth the trouble of re-doing all of that.

I've been using Firefox for years and haven't had hardly any problem until I now have the combination of Firefox 3.5.3 and OS 10.5.8.

firefox 3.5.3 / macbook

Just upgraded firefox on my macbook....and having nothing but troubles. Firefox screen loads but cannot go anywhere beyond that in a google search.

Tried re-installing etc....no luck.

Wish I hadn't upgraded! Especially since I use Firefox for web design class.

Any suggestions?

Everything the same here, except one thing: no problems with Firefox. It's not the 10.5.8 update, it's not the Mini. It's something in your software that's corrupt, most likely.

By "clean" install you mean that I'm going to lose all my passwords, favorite sites, bookmarks and everything else?
Yes, you probably would. You can export your bookmarks, then import them to Safari, then reverse that once Firefox is fixed. (favorite sites = Bookmarks?) Passwords might be saved elsewhere, depending on what you've done with them, otherwise, write 'em down!

This very informative site was posted in another thread by someone else: Mac OS X 10.5: What you can do if Safari quits unexpectedly
The symptom might be different, but the possible solutions are about the same.

Any suggestions?
Yeah, the above link.

Evidently I've resolved my issues with the combination of Firefox 3.5.3 and OS 10.5.8. I removed ALL of Firefox 3.5.3. I reinstalled Firefox and haven't had any troubles for over a week. I was having issues daily. Thanks everyone. DebbieDo, Good luck. Dan:D
