DVD to AVI Conversion Software

I have a DVD that was given to me by my daughter that has video of the ultrasound of my granddaughter. I want to post this onto a website that allows videos, but it won't take the DVD format.

What's the best conversion software for converting the DVD file to an .avi or .mpeg format for uploading?

I'm new to the Mac world, having converted only 2 weeks ago.
