I have a MacBook with a bum DVD drive and no operating system. My original thought was to remove the HDD, attach it to my desktop (running XP Pro), mount the OSX .iso using Magic Disc and install it on the laptop HDD. However, even after a low level format and initialization using MacDrive 8, still no dice. Whenever I mount the .iso it gives me an option for remote installation or CD/DVD drive sharing and nothing else. How should I install OSX on the laptop HDD using my desktop?

You can't install from a Win machine. Either replace your DVD drive in the MacBook or buy an external DVD drive and install OS X that way.

Regards.
