I want to sometimes have the convenience of using FCP and editing a project on the road without shleeping along an external hard drive. I am using a MacBook Pro. If I run FCP and have my files on the hard drive, is that bad for the computer?

No, but depending on the speed of the external HDD it might be slower working off the external HDD.

If anything is bad, it's working off a server. >_>"
