Hi all, I've just noticed something on my MBP that I have never heard before.

With the screen open, and I pick it up from the right side, with my thumb centered on the top right chassis, and my other four fingers on the bottom side, the laptop makes a popping sound. While it's not very loud, It's still there. Is something loose underneath maybe?

It sounds like what you are hearing is the gyro/motion sensor built into your Mac. This feature parks the hard drive in the case of sudden motion in your Mac to protect your data. It's normal and nothing to worry about.

I know what your talking about, but this happens even if you just pick it up slowly.

I think what you're hearing is the case settling and or bending slightly under the weight when you pick the machine up. If you can hear the same sound when the computer is turned off, then that's probably what it is.

Regards.

Yep- It also does it when it is off. It seems to be around the superdrive area. I was just making sure that nothing was broken underneath.
