• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

i recorded some videos of my son with cycorder on my iphone and transfered them to my mac. i can play them with vlc player just fine. however, his mom (and her family) have pc's and if i email them the videos they can't play them. what is the best way i can convert them to a windows media player format so they can view them? i wish i could tell them all to go get vlc, but they won't know what i'm talking about.

They should be able to install Quicktime on the PC and play the MOV files. But if that isn't something they want to do, you should be able to use VideoMonkey to convert the MOV file to WMV.

Anyone know why only the Apple Devices options are available? Flash, wmv and all the others are dimmed.

That's strange..VideoMonkey uses ffmpeg to do the conversion and ffmpeg supports a whole array of formats..I'm at work, so can't play with the options..

Installing QuickTime on a PC shouldn't be simple. However, if your .mov uses a certain codec not available in the default player, then you may run into problems (even for a Mac user).
