Hey, I noticed that the new snow leopard is for the intel's only, which got me thinking if I should update my G4 or upgrade to a newer machine. I've changed out the stock graphic card to an ATI Radeon 9800 and I've added 2 Gb of Memory (on top of the 512 mb that comes stock). What else can I do to make this machine the best it can be? Or is it not worth the money to update, and it's more wise to by a new Imac or the bottom of the new Mac Pros? I've heard you can upgrade the core duo processors. I like working with Final Cut (not doing too many 3d graphics though), Garage band, and internet. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks!

That is it. There was at one stage a processor upgrade, but it was not worth the expense as it only went to 1.8GHz, not much of a raise for the big bucks. If you have the cash for sure look at a Mac Pro.

I recently sold my 7 year old G4 Mirror Door and bought a Mac Pro! It was about time...

From the way your message sounds...you added 2 gig of ram "on top" of the 512meg that was there...for a total of 2.5gig of ram.

To the best of my knowledge if this is a G4 desktop computer...2.5 gig of ram is impossible. The max ram of any G4 is 2 gig.

If you actually have 2.5 gig...then maybe you've discovered something no one else has. What model G4 is it?

Thanks,

- Nick

You know, That would explain why the 1 gb i just added said "2 gb" all together on the system. and it was on top of the 512 mb that came with the system. thanks for the input

And I guess you could install;4x1GB modules and Apple System Profiler and the machine will still only recognise a maximum of 2GB,
