Hi all,

First off, iMac 3.06, purchased in July '09, running Snow Leopard.

The bluetooth icon in the menu bar all of a sudden will not turn on. It's greyed out and says "Bluetooth: off" and doesn't respond when I click Turn Bluetooth on.

When I open preferences, I see all devices with red orbs, saying not connected. I toggle the on off check box to no avail as well.

I did the firmware update from apple after my issues this morning but that's done nothing for me.

I repaired permissions and got nowhere with that. Any ideas?

Your help is appreciated!

OK, so I just got it sorted out via applecare phone call. Here's what you do if any of you ever experience the same issue:

-Shut down your computer and unhook EVERY peripheral.

-Unplug the computer from the power outlet. Let it stand unplugged for 30 seconds.

-Plug in the computer, keyboard and mouse ONLY (helps to have wired versions obviously, since bt is the problem we are trying to fix) - do not turn it on yet.

-Next you need to take note of the option, command, R and P keys. You will be holding all 4 down simultaneously.

-Press the power button then quickly, press all 4 option, command, r and p keys until you hear 2 (two) apple booting dings

-Release all 4 keys, let it boot and then bt should be restored. Worked like a charm for me.

Serve with a chilled white wine and enjoy.

bluetooth won't turn on - another easier solution

I had the same problem this morning, I'd done a few things like exchange batteries etc. Found another forum that suggested to just force quit 'blued' in activity monitor under processes. This is the bluetooth daemon. This worked for me instantly. No rebooting.
