Before I installed Snow Leopard, my Trash Bin would display how many items were being trashed. If I only put in 1 item, then when I empty it, it would show 1 item being trashed.

Now that I've installed Snow Leopard, I can put only ONE item in the Trash Bin but when I empty it, it will sometimes show 2, 3 or even 4 items being trashed. Why is that? TIA.

Way... way too many specs to list.
depends on what you've trashed really, this was true before Snow Leopard as well. For instance, applications are really more than a single file.. it's a package. In your finder it's viewed as a single file (unless you select show package contents), but in the trash it's always been listed as the full # of files. Is this the sort of thing you've been tossing?

This should help explain what an app (application bundle) comprises.
