Water damage- no water?

I bought my macbook in March 2009 and bought the applecare protection plan.

Just this week I was using it put it down and charging for the night. Woke up, tried to turn it on and the screen was black.
All the functions work (I could hear the startup noises, clicking, and use the cd drive) but I can't see anything.

So I took it to a mac specialist store, not apple, but they honor apple's warranty.
They figured it was an easy fix.
They just called me today said it had extensive corrosion due to water damage and it would cost 900 dollars to fix it!

I'm going to pick it up and take it directly to apple and see what they say.

But I haven't spilled any water on it, and it's been in great condition.

Any suggestions or ideas?
I'm not good with computers but it seems pretty ridiculous that I'll have to pay 900 when I didn't spill anything on it and it's only 6 months old.
Also, the computer worked with plugged into another screen.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

It is under Applecare warranty. Pick it up asap as they are likely to start repairs if you leave it too long, perhaps voiding the warranty etc. Take it to a genuine Apple reseller and do not tell them of this diagnosis. Could be the store only makes money out of repairs and replacements. Anyone borrowed the machine?

Like Harry said...take it to an Apple Store & have them check it out.

As far as the corrosion...if you didn't spill water on it...how do you think the corrosion got there?
