Software Update Fails

I have a problem with my iMac with Leopard on it.

Whenever I go to Software Update, I get this message:
"The file "x.x.x.x" couldn't be found on the server "x.x.x.x". (Where x.x.x.x is the server's ip address)

If I try to run software update through the terminal with the command "sudo softwareupdate -i -a", I get an error that says "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100"

I've searched on both of these errors but to no real avail. Any ideas?

Should you not be up to date with X.5.8, try and download the combo updater direct from the Apple web site:-

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update

I don't think that will fix it. I get an error message on the package that says "You cannot install ... on this volume. The volume does not meet the requirements for this update".

Also, the update doesn't say anything about fixing the Software Update feature.

Do not use Software Update. Download directly from Apple. Did you try that?

So which iMac do u have G3 G4 G5 or Intel?

Yes. I can download updates manually. I did it with the new iTunes update. However I would rather not have this be a permanent thing. I would like to know how to somehow fix the problem.

I have an Intel iMac.

Does anywhere know where Apple Update looks whenever the button is pressed? Is there a certain plist that is directing it to a file called "X.X.X.X"?

I see where it is getting it now...

With workgroup manager, I am telling my clients to look at my server, X.X.X.X, for their software updates because I am the SUS for the network.

For some reason, my server is also using this policy--even though the policy is directed towards "guest".

If I take the policy out and reboot my server, then all works fine.

If anyone else is having this problem, you seemed to do this to fix it:

Go to Directory Utility on your server
Click on "Search Policy"
Click on the "Authentication" tab
delete the lcoal LDAPv3 entry
