I'm bringing my flower power imac back to life. All working fine on
10.3.9. Going wireless was next stage so airport card & adaptor got
from ebay. Installed in seconds & working 1st time... God, I love
macs :D

Question is, do I install software update 4.2? Having got it working I
don't want to mess things up. Do I need previous updates? Not having
the ol' gal running since the last ever panther update & never being wireless
until now, I can't remember if I ever downloaded airport updates
before. (btw firmware on card is 9.52)

Any advice much appreciated.

I think if it's running fine as is, then don't meddle!

You could update your iMac's OS to 10.4 (10.4.11).

An updated & secure mac is a happy mac, no? Which begs the question...

that does seem to be the general consensus... now to negotiate getting hold of tiger cd's as "Florence" is a slot loading cd-rw...

Good luck as they are like hens teeth Tiger on CDs. Whilst Flo may be a slot loader, most had combo drives that can read, and install, from a DVD OS disc.

What does Apple System profiler have to say about the burner?

Think Firewire is much more likely than finding those elusive Tiger CDs. They were an exchange program from Apple for folk with these machines to enjoy Tiger which is what makes them so scarce.

All you need to do to test your G3 iMac to see if it will read DVD's...is simply insert a "movie" DVD. If it reads a movie DVD...it should read an OS install DVD.

Hope this helps,
