losing wireless connection

both my friend and I have this problem with our 14" ibook where the airport card doesn't automatcially join the wireless network in my home upon boot up or when waking from sleep mode.

Everytime I use the computer i have to double click in the menu bar the airport icon and enter in the network name and password. I have already set the preferred networks under system preferences but strangely its still not connecting unless i do it manually.

I'm sure there is a way around this but I'm still very new to mac.

Try this just to make sure you have the right settings:

System Preferences>Network>Airport>Configure

Where it says "By default, join:" make sure it reads "Automatic".

If that doesn't work, try using interference robustness in the airport menu bar icon.
