I have a G5 iMac running Tiger 10.4.11 and I want to upgrade to Leopard.

I've been told various things from my local Apple store abot what software I need to buy.

1. They have told me that you can not upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard on a G5, is this correct?

2. If I want to upgrade to Leopard thy also told me that I have to buy the box set and not just an install DVD or restore disc, is this correct?

3. Is there a cheaper way to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard please?

1. Yes, SL will not run on PPC

2. You need any full retail version of Leopard, black disc - the restore disc from someone else's machine will not work

Yea, as dynagirl said, that's the way to do it. You don't need to buy any box set, they were probably just confused and thought you were still trying to get snow leopard. You just need a leopard retail install disc. Take the route dyna just listed.

Buy as bobtomay suggests. Not all you read here is gospel. That cost quoted is for replacement sets of discs that came with machines.

And do an archive and install rather than an upgrade. Your old system, Tiger, will be in a folder named similar to 'Old System Files'.
