Run maintenance. Use disk utility from your install disc and verify permissions and the HD.
Also, reset Safari from the file menu, it gives you lots of options.
That could well solve a lot of your issues.

I suggest calling your local Apple store and make a genius appointment.

That's certainly very unusual for a new computer. I second letting a Genius look at it to try to discover the problem. There's only so much troubleshooting advice you can get online for a problem that's so inexplicable.

Agreed.

And with as much trouble as you've had with that machine, I'm starting to wonder if you should pick a new username? :D

Help?

But what is this set to?

Click for full size

And for item 2 - if it happening in both browsers then i would be checking out Network settings in case there is a conflict there.

That's sweet. Also, if you hate the idea of new windows (i know I do), I used a terminal command to make all links open in a new tab instead of new windows.
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Well, if you're trying to hide your porn or whatever, the best way, IMO, is to open disk utility and say "create new image" - make a new image of whatever size you think you'll need, and encrypt it with a password. It won't be invisible, but it will be unsearchable unless it is mounted. You can always name it something fun too, like, "grass.dmg" or something, put it in an obscure location, and if someone stumbles upon it and is like, "what's that?" be like, "i have no idea," try to open it, type in the wrong password, and be like, "huh. weird."

So,what if I need something less complex that I can just have on my desktop lol....I wish I knoew how to design programs.I would make the easiest one ever.

I'm going to have to start keeping track of the times I tell folks to call Apple.

Out of the last 5;
3 get total replacement
1 had failed hardware replaced
1 got mad that after coming here for help, a "mod" would make such a suggestion instead of troubleshooting

It's not a good track record that is it. Apple - sort your game out.

It's not a good track record that is it.

It is if you consider that almost five million Macs are sold a year and if you compare the number of people who have no such problems with theirs. What's more important is how Apple handles such problems, and so far all I've heard is that it's pretty easy to get them to replace a computer or repair it for free.

I'm pretty sure that won't be a problem, so definitely ask them about it and be persistent but polite. They won't have a reason to say no.

As Oneironaut said, be POLITE. The last time I was at the apple store, this guy was trying to get a new MacBook pro 15 inch because he claimed his had some problems that weren't presenting. Then when they told him that they could run a full hardware diagnostics test but that he would have to leave it over night, he got really mad and started acting like a total jerk. He had a friend with him who was like, "4 to 5 hours?! that's total crap, I used to write diagnostic programs... it'll take an hour tops to scan the whole computer." He was from New Jersey up by NYC, about 20 years old, and you could tell he himself had never paid for anything in his life and that it was all mommy and daddy's money paying for it. He was really rude, the genius who was helping him gave up and got the manager...

The point is, be polite if you want to get what you want. Otherwise you're just going to look like a jerk and you'll probably end up not getting what you want. Courtesy wins! :)
