PC to Mac Network

I have a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, OS X 10.5.6 and, as far as I know, it has no wireless capabilities. I also have a compaq laptop that is wirelessly connected to a 2wire modem. Is it possible to connect my mac to my laptop using an ethernet cable and get internet from my laptop? Or am I going to have to buy a card or usb adapter to link my mac and 2wire modem?

Also, I would like to be able to transfer files from my mac and pc.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
