I need help,
I have spent hours trying to install OS 10.5 (from my laptop pro) onto my non intel imac running 10.3.9.

I am told 10.5 will run on the imac, but when I restart get a page of script with a multi language prompt to hold my start button down for several seconds or I also get a firmware message and have to type in mac-boot to restart.

What am I doing wrong?

Any Ideaas????

Why are you trying to install 10.5 from a laptop to an iMac?

If you don't have a retail copy of the 10.5 install disk to install directly onto your iMac...you're probably trying to use the "grey/silver" disks from your MacBook Pro laptop...and it just doesn't work that way.

The reason I was trying the install discs from a laptop is because I have them, from the laptop I just bought,

So what I need to look for is a install disc 10.5 for an i mac? or what specifically?

then it should run ok?

The discs that ship with the computer are 1) machine specific discs and will not work on other machines and 2) breaks the license agreement to only use that copy of the OS on one machine.

You will need a retail set of Leopard discs in order to install Leopard on your iMac.

You need the full retail install version of Leopard, black coloured discs and not model specifics, and the DVD will then work on any Mac with leopard capabilities.

Thanks Guys,
I will look for the black coloured disk from the local apple store, the price should drop now 10.6 is out.

Don't you bet on it Alan. See that older, antiquated OS Panther still brings about $90.00!
