Ethernet Port

Question about my mid 09 macbook pro Gigabit Ethernet Port. i have a live regular kat 5 ethernet wire that when i use my old laptop using Windows i get internet quick. no problem and no Conf.. now i've plugged it in to my mac and for some reason i cant get it to work it doesn't even recognize the wire. now i have wireless no problem and i even can use my iphone using tethering.. but no Ethernet is there a way to configure this port or do something else.? PLease any help.. Thanks..

Go into the Network Utility and make sure you are getting an IP address and link. Also, go into System Preferences > Network and make sure you are using DHCP. If that all looks good click Advanced > Renew DHCP Lease. Try these and get back to us.
