I'm trying to learn how to use the Mac to burn DVDs, like a movie or cartoon. I know the Mac has iDVD but I didn't see an option for burning movies from a DVD. Any suggestions for a cheap program to do this?

To put it basically, it's simple to use, and it works.
I've been using it to burn all my music and movies for a couple of years now.
I had Toast 9, and now toast 10.... I'm not really seeing that much difference, that I would have happily stayed with toast 9 if I knew.
So, in saying that, I won't be upgrading to toast 10 pro.

Toast 10 does what I need, as did toast 9 :)

It is a bit bulky, but I removed a lot of the package that I don't and won't use, ie streamer.... knowing that I always have the option to reinstall
Nothing to major though, I don't have any performance issues, and I'm using MB 2.2GHz intel core 2 duo, 2GB with 120GB HD

Are you after ripping commercial DVD's and burning them or just movies you have on your computer and burning them to a DVD?

If it's ripping Commercial DVD's we can not help you as that is against the USA Law and the MPAA rules.

If it's just burning video you have to a DVD, If you want Free, Burn like CWA suggested. If you want low cost but not free, Mac Burn, If you want the finest burning software for OSX for burning CD's DVD, Music, ETC, Toast as has already suggested.

We do not know unless you tell us which you just did. We get people all the time wanting to do what I asked you. Sorry, I had to ask and tell you the rules here just in case.

Edit: I was talking to the OP. Your question was not even relating to what I warned so why did you go off like that? I was asking the starter of this thread that question.

I think that was directed at the OP, who said he wanted to burn movies... right?

Good catch! It was directed at the OP. It's HIS thread. His wording sort of implied Ripping and burning.

I thought he was the OP because of the way he went off on me! Me bad! :D

I thought creating backups of all commercially produced DVD were illegal, regardless if you actually paid money for them or not.

Although off-topic, just to clarify....

Under the terms of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), it is illegal to break any encryption mechanism, including the CSS encryption used on DVDs. So, although the simple act of burning video to a disc is not illegal, it would be illegal to perform the disc rip itself to acquire the content.

In this case, the OP simply asked how to go about burning video (he didn't specify the source) to a disc. And that topic is 100% kosher as long as we're not discussing the ripping process.
