Don't use my drive much, but last night wanted to burn a cd for a friend and inserted the disk. Nothing happened and now cannot eject the disk. Looked at the hardware profile and it says no burning drive available. Is there a setting I should look at? Restarting the iMac didn't help. Maybe a driver was accidentally uninstalled or deleted?

Thanks for the link. However my drive isn't even seen by the computer. No drive or disk icon available to drag to the trash.

If System Profiler does not show the drive it may well be dead, or the IDE cable has become disconnected. Open her up and check the canle first thing. It is far easier if you provide the model details and we can then do a search for you and find the precise instruction s for getting to the DVD/CD drive.
