• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have a macbook that has no firewire port on it. It seams imovie will only accept a firewire connection. How can I connect my USB Panasonic MiniDV camcorder to my macbook to download video files into imovie? Is there a USB to FireWire adapter? Is there a program I can use to get the video onto my mac so it can be edited in imovie?

Please help.

You can't.

OK...

The answer is that Apple never released any software that could read via USB from miniDV tape devices. So your absence of firewire is irrelevant in this case. I don't know of any third party option that can do that either.

What people do is use something like an Elgato TV tuner with a video input port. Search the forum for converting vhs/hi-8/tape via usb connection. It has been answered many times. Here is one for you.
