I have had my macbook pro for three years and this has never happened. The zoom button is not on and command +- has no effect on the current problem. Here is the issue:I turned on the mac today and noticed that any page I open on firefox is too big for the screen. This makes it difficult to maneuver around on web pages. When I open programs as well, the program opens up and is again oddly too large. Any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help with the matter. Restarting the computer twice did nothing.

Check "System Preferences -> Universal Access", and make sure everything is unselected.

Or you might have accidentally pressed the Control key while scrolling, which zooms the entire screen in.
