I have a Macbook Pro (not the unibody new ones) and the F1-F9 Key don't respond. Ive just reverted to having the volume in the menu. But id like to know how to fix this.

Thanks

Either use the 'fn' key with them or go to System Preferences/Keyboard and uncheck "Use all F1,F2,etc...."

But, bobtomay, if the F10-F12 are working.... then there is something wrong with the function keys that has nothing to do with how they are set in System Preferences.

Depends on what is meant by 'not responding' & depends on the model.

On my MBP, that checkmark affects F1-F10 and does not change F11-F12.

If he's talking about the functions marked on the keys not responding, that's the starting place. Let's see where it takes us. And it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. You haven't seen the last one either.:Blushing:

The model Is:
apple-macbook-pro.jpg

The keys and functions are:
F1-Srn.Darker
F2 -Srn.brighter
F3-Mute
F4-Vol.down
F5-Vol.up
F6-Spaces
F7-numLock
F8-No keyboard light
F9-Med.Keyboard Light

Its a total pain not to have these working! I haven't heard any problem like this before:Angry-Tongue:

Have you tried either of the suggestions in my first post?
And the results?

Some time nothing but some times it works..it very strange

Yeah, I tried both..you need to toggle the "fn" button a couple times then it works. But i have now clue why it isn't working when it isn't...

My theory is old Macbook and less responsive keys.
