Sounds like you're booting into 10.4. Are you sure you're booting into 10.6? What do you mean by "transferred my old hard drive to the new one"? If you mean that you restored from a SuperDuper or CCC backup, you likely just put 10.4 back on the disk.

Yeah you probably are running off of the old drive's image and therefore actually booting 10.4. Install Leopard, then Snow Leopard and you should be fine, and have all your stuff, and 10.6.

yes, i installed 10.6 on an empty hard drive, then i connected the old hard drive with 10.4 on it. then using migration assistant, i transferred the contents, and settings to the new hard drive. is it possible, or should i even bother, to erase the hard drive, install 10.4, migrate everything again, then install 10.6 again? i dont have 10.5 so its an upgrade from 10.4 strait to 10.6. thank u for all ur input.

You can't erase a hard drive while it's up and running the OS. It would be like sawing off the branch of a tree that you're sitting on. Boot the machine from the install DVD and then do the erase.

Regards.
