I am the type of person that always gets new stuff but the 200 less price on the stuff is somewhat appealing... I have heard good things from the refurbs?? Is there really any negatives to getting a refurb vs. NEW?

The only real negative that I've seen with the refurbs since I've been a member here, is that with the money you save, you have no excuse not to purchase an external drive for backups.

The biggest negative is in how often this question is asked.

LOL, True.

I've purchased every Macintosh and iPod I've owned, except for my first MB, as an Apple Refurb from the Apple Store. They have all been excellent devices with no issues except one particular MBP. Apple exchanged that one and gave me a "new" Refurb MBP with the upgraded 512MB graphics card for no additional charge. I highly recommend them to everyone who asks. Feel confident that you are buying quality with an Apple Refurb from the Apple Store. I have no idea about the refurbs advertised on eBay or elsewhere.

Oh, we could go on and on.... and that's just in the past year.

The bottom line is that the term "refurbished" implies that the machine has been made to look and operate like a brand new machine. If there are any problems, it's covered by the same warranty that a new one would be covered by, so you can always go back to Apple should there be an issue. The only difference is in the way it's packaged (you don't get the fancy box).

Yeah I currently have pc only but I have a 500 and 250 external already. I'll just change the 500 probably to be the backup drive. Or possibly depending on cash buy a 1tb instead.

I just purchased a refurb yesterday. I purchased the MacBook unibody 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, and 250 GB HDD all for $1068. It was a **** of a deal and I do believe that the offer is still up there if you wanted to grab one. I rushed to purchase it without the Apple Care because over the past week I've seen a few of the refurbs get taken off the website due to selling out of them. I plan on getting it later but as for refurbs I cannot wait to see what I will recieve

Usually no surprises...they're normally just like brand new.

Yea my aunt has a refurb and she loves it. No problems at all. And they bought the apple care with it. Even if they were buying a new one they still would get apple care. But I am guessing they do an extensive check before they sell refurbs. I mean I swear the thing looks brand new. I was expecting some sort of flaws but seriously looked BNIB. LOL
